Acceptable Use Policy - Electronic Resources

The following is an acceptable use policy for Electronic Resources I wrote for the Bangor University Library. This policy was written to be intergrated into a larger Library Acceptable Use policy document.

Acceptable Use Policy

2. Electronic Resources
2.1. It is the responsibility of all members of Bangor University to ensure their use of an        electronic resource does not breach the licence conditions.
2.2 Use of these resources for commercial research purposes and by unauthorised users is       expressly prohibited.
2.3. The consequences of misuse of an electronic resource may include the suspension of        library borrowing and access rights.
2.4. The following categories of people can use these resources. A username and password        may be necessary in some cases.
  2.4.1. Registered students of Bangor University.
  2.4.2. Employees of Bangor University.
2.5. The following categories of people are not normally permitted to use these resources:
  2.5.1. Former students, unless they qualify under the terms for employees and students.
  2.5.2. Retired members of staff.
  2.5.3. Registered student who combine academic study with periods of practical work             experience in industry.
  2.5.4. People from industry on courses run for their employer.
  2.5.5. Walk-in visitors and members of general public.
2.6. Databases and electronic journals may be used for:
  2.6.1. Teaching.
  2.6.2. Research.
  2.6.3. Personal educational development.
  2.6.4. Administration and management of the business of the University.
  2.6.5. Development work associated with any of the above.
2.7. Authorised users are normally permitted to print one copy of material retrieved for their        personal study or research.
2.8. Users are not permitted to print copies of e-books or systematically download e-journal        content.
2.9. Use is not permitted for:
  2.9.1. Consultancy or services leading to commercial exploitation.
  2.9.2. Work of direct benefit to the employer of students on industrial placement or             part-time courses paid for by the student's employer.
